Headaches: The chiropractic approach

Most headache sufferers will have visited the medical system and had their headache classified into tension, cluster, migraine, thunderclap etc.  However, giving it a name doesn’t really help you, the patient.  The conventional treatment approach is to prescribe analgesics or muscle relaxants which don’t always work and if they do then you’re stuck with them for life.

With chiropractic treatment, including craniopathy, we aim to treat the root cause and thereby eliminate the headache.  So what can those root causes be ?  The most common cause is sutural jamming.  The cranial sutures are the joints between the plates of the skull, which should have a pliability to them which facilitates circulation of cerebro-spinal fluid around the nervous system, including the brain.  This restriction is sometimes associated with temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction - a wonky jaw !

In SOT cranial chiropractic we have amazing techniques to restore motion to the cranium and realign the TMJ.  An example of this work being done can be seen in the homepage video. The techniques used are not painful and no drugs are required.

As well as TMJ dysfunction head trauma can also lead to these issues, and respond equally well.  However, people who have lost their teeth and wear dentures tend not to do so well with this approach.

Hormonal imbalance, including the stress hormones adrenalin and cortisol can also cause headaches.  Very commonly people who are stressed will clench their jaw and grind their teeth which only adds to the problems of sutural restriction highlighted above.

So if you thought your many years of suffering was something you just have to accept then why not give us a call and we will show you a different outcome.
